Connect By Disconnecting

We are connected to our devices nearly 24 hours a day—to social media, work, artificial intelligence, texting, shopping, and an endless stream of information.

Yet somehow, we have never felt more disconnected.

We may see our friends and family online every day, but many of us are struggling to slow down, be present, and genuinely connect face to face. Our attention is divided. Our sleep is suffering. Quiet has become uncomfortable, and the people sitting beside us sometimes receive less of our attention than the screens in our hands.

Connectivity Farm is being created as an answer to that.

Set on 40 acres in the greater Chattanooga area, the farm will be a place where people can step away from the noise and reconnect—with the land, animals, food, one another, and ultimately themselves.

The property is still at the beginning of its story. Follow along as I turn undeveloped land into an off-grid retreat built around one simple idea:

Sometimes, the best way to reconnect is to disconnect.

Finding Our Way Again

When my kids were younger, I took them to a corn maze every fall.

The first year, they ran through it randomly, trying to find the exit as quickly as possible. The next year, I gave them a map. By the third year, I showed them how to orient it, understand where they were and thoughtfully choose their next turn.

Years later, while teaching them to drive, they both asked the same question: “Can we just turn on the GPS?”

My answer was usually no.

Getting somewhere is not only about reaching the destination. It is about paying attention, making decisions and learning how to correct your course.

That idea is at the heart of Connectivity Farm.

It is a place to step away from constant directions and distractions—and reconnect with ourselves, one another and the land.

Because life is not only about reaching the destination. It is about learning how to find your way there.

Another way to connect

Share the mission of connectivity by showing others you are currently disconnected from your device.
